Black Hat - Search Engine Spam:
|
- Doorway pages, not to be confused with landing pages. Landing pages are created to be rich in
content and your visitors will usually come through these pages by virtue of Pay Per Click advertising.
Doorway pages on the other hand are usually some form a redirection. The way it works is you click
a link on the search engine and land on a page and then you are redirected to a completely separate page.
Doorway pages are not used as often anymore because search engines will tend to penalize or even
completely delist your site.
- Hidden and Tiny Text. If you plan on designing your page with hidden text it may
be time to reevaluate your design. Hidden and tiny text was used a lot in the past but the search
engines are now looking for this trick and if you are using this technique and they find out your site could be
penalized or possibly removed from the search all together.
- Keyword Stuffing. This is the action of using a nonsensical stream of keywords or using keywords
out of place on your site just to try to get your site listed under a specific keyword. This can cause a site to be
penalized and possibly delisted from the search engines altogether.
- Site Over Submission. You can over submit your site without the proper knowledge. Most
major search engines prefer to find your site via link from another website to your url. However if you submit
your site manually to search engines do not do it more than once every 4 to 6 weeks.
NOTE: Do not use automatic submissions. If you decide you do not want to wait for the search engines to find your
url, make all submissions manually - and read the directions. It will help your site in the long run.
- Page Jacking. This is a sure way to get your site delisted from search engines and it is actually
against the law in more ways then one. This is where you completely copy a web page or website in whole to try to get
better rankings on the search engines. You basically are creating the page or site to impersonate a company and while
it may work in the very short term (if at all) it could lead to a jail sentence and lawsuits.
- Cloaking. Some companies use cloaking to protect their codes from outsiders,
however this is not recommended. Cloaking basically is when a user clicks to visit a site the user
sees one webpage however when the search engine crawler sees the page they are seeing a completely more relevant and
better optimized site. If you get caught your site will be penalized and even could be completely delisted.
The above are just some of the things you should make sure your search engine marketing company will not be partaking in.
While the above tricks can be very beneficial for a very short time it can be devastating to your business online if or
should I say when you get caught.
It is a better practice to follow the rules, though it may take a little more time to get to the top once you make it
you will have a better shot at staying then if you or the company you choose is using the above techniques.
